Variety characteristics:

• W1389 Yi Dian Hong is a distinctive Chinese two-tone radish producing attractive roots with vivid purple-red shoulders and clean white lower sections. The exposed portion develops its colorful blush above the soil line, while the underground portion remains white, creating the characteristic 'single touch of red' appearance behind its Chinese name. Plants form relatively upright clusters of pale-green leaves with broad, elongated shapes reminiscent of loquat foliage. The petioles and central leaf veins develop attractive red-purple coloring that complements the brightly colored roots.
The crisp white flesh is succulent and mildly sweet, finishing with a pleasant radish heat. Roots mature in approximately 60 days under suitable fall conditions and retain good eating quality when harvested promptly. This cold-tolerant, relatively slow-bolting selection is well suited to fall gardens and mild-winter production. Space plants approximately 13.8 inches apart in rows spaced 15.7 inches apart. Grow in deep, loose soil and maintain consistent moisture to encourage smooth, well-shaped roots. Excellent for fresh slicing, salads, stir-fries, braised dishes, quick pickles and traditional preserved radish preparations.
