Variety characteristics:

• W1375 Ganlan Mi is a vigorous Chinese winter squash producing distinctive olive-shaped fruits weighing approximately 4.4–5.5 lb. The smooth gray-green rind surrounds thick, brilliant orange flesh with a dense, dry and fine-grained texture. Fully cooked flesh becomes fluffy and richly sweet, with a pronounced chestnut-like aroma and a smooth, satisfying finish. The substantial flesh is excellent for steaming, roasting, baking, mashing, soups, curries and both sweet and savory fillings.
After harvest, properly matured fruits can be rested in a dry, well-ventilated location. During this period, the gray-green rind may develop orange-toned striping while the flavor becomes sweeter and more concentrated. Winter squash continues converting stored starches into sugars during curing and storage, improving sweetness and eating quality.
The vigorous vines require generous growing space. Space plants approximately 19.7 inches apart in rows about 59 inches apart. Allow fruits to mature fully on the vine, then harvest with a section of stem attached once the rind is hard and the fruit stem has become dry and corky.
