◆ Cyperus alternifolius is a perennial herbaceous plant belonging to the genus Cyperus of the Cyperaceae family. It reaches a height of 60–120 cm, featuring nearly cylindrical, erect and unbranched stems, short thick rhizomes with tough fibrous roots. Bracts grow in an umbrella-shaped cluster at the stem apex, with plenty of ray branches. Abundant spikelets are densely arranged at the apex of these ray branches, giving the plant an umbrella-like appearance. It thrives in warm, humid and full-sun locations. The plant is not cold-tolerant yet shade-resistant, and is widely applied in water feature layouts and rain garden landscaping.
