Siraitia grosvenorii, also known as monk fruit, monkfruit, luo han guo, or Swingle fruit, is a climbing herbaceous plant from the Cucurbitaceae family, has stems, branches, and petioles covered with yellow-brown soft hairs and black glandular warts. Its leaves are membranous, ovate-heart-shaped, and it is a dioecious plant, meaning male and female flowers grow on separate plants. The flowers are yellow with black glandular dots, and the fruit is spherical or oblong with a thin, brittle rind when dried. Monk fruit blooms from May to July and bears fruit from July to September.

This plant thrives in warm, humid climates with significant day-night temperature variations and short daylight. It is sensitive to high temperatures and frost. For optimal growth, monk fruit requires well-drained, loose, and moist loamy soil rich in humus and with a deep soil layer.
