Its leaves are green and oblong‑lanceolate, featuring a rounded base, acuminate apex, finely serrated margins, longitudinal grooves on the surface, and dense short hairs, with high fiber content. The bark can be processed into jute rope; its young leaves are edible and have an excellent taste when stir‑fried. Leaves become inedible once the plant flowers and bears fruit.
