Its leaves have lanceolate stipules, pinnately arranged finger-like pinnae, and linear-oblong leaflets. The most notable trait is its seismonastic response—when touched, the pinnae and leaflets close and droop. Flowering occurs from March to October, producing light pink globose capitulum inflorescences with campanulate corollas; fruiting occurs from May to November, yielding flat oblong pods with ovoid seeds. This plant prefers warm, humid, sunny environments and well-drained, organic-rich sandy loam, characterized by rapid growth and high adaptability. It has both medicinal and ornamental value: The whole herb is used medicinally for sedative effects; crushed fresh leaves are applied topically to treat herpes zoster (Note: Mimosine alkaloids are mildly toxic). It is cultivated as an ornamental for its unique leaf movements and elegant inflorescences, making it a fascinating herbaceous specimen.
