◆ Alpine Eryngo (Eryngium alpinum) is a perennial herb in the Eryngium genus (Apiaceae family), typically grown as an annual. Reaching over 60 cm in height, it features a robust root system, basal leaves (about 25 cm long) with deep heart-shaped or triangular lobes, and broadly cordate stem leaves in a distinctive blue-gray hue. Its showy flower heads form dense domed clusters, surrounded by 12-18 oblanceolate bracts, and bloom from July to August in bluish-green, blue, or white. The spreading, sharply serrated bracts enhance its ornamental appeal. Fruits are oval achenes with scaly surfaces. Adaptable yet hardy, it tolerates cold but prefers temperate climates (optimal growth at 17-20°C; growth slows above 30°C). While adaptable to most soils, it thrives in deep, fertile, well-drained sandy loam with organic matter - a perfect blend of beauty and resilience.
