◆ Bupleurum chinense DC. is a perennial herb belonging to the genus Bupleurum in the family Apiaceae. It has a relatively thick, brown taproot with a hard texture and an enlarged root crown; stems are solitary or clustered, with fine longitudinal grooves, solid, and with a delicate fragrance; petals are bright yellow; fruit is elliptic and brown. Flowering occurs in September, and fruiting in October. Bupleurum chinense prefers a warm, humid, sunny, and nutrient‑rich environment. It is cold‑tolerant, drought‑tolerant, intolerant of waterlogging, and highly adaptable. Its roots are used medicinally, with functions including relieving exterior syndromes and reducing fever, soothing the liver and relieving stagnation, and lifting yang qi.
