◆ 842 Micro Hockey Puck Tomato is a very early, compact dwarf tomato variety developed at the John Innes Institute in England in the 1940s. Plants are usually about 12 in tall, though in some growing conditions they may stay much smaller, and are exceptionally well suited for pots, containers, patios, and small spaces. Despite the compact habit, plants can produce a heavy set of salad-size fruits weighing about 1.4-3.5 oz each. Fruits are round to slightly flattened, glossy red, and may show slight cracking around the shoulders. Flavor is mild and balanced, often described as reminiscent of old-fashioned Campbell's tomato soup, especially when cooked. Fruits keep well, plants tolerate cooler temperatures, and the variety makes excellent soup or sauce, though it may be more susceptible to late-season tomato diseases.
