296 Hunk Papa Tomato, 5 Seeds

Description

296 Hunk Papa is a productive midseason tomato producing substantial, flattened beefsteak fruits weighing approximately 8.8 to 17.6 oz. The handsome tomatoes ripen from green to dusky purple, burgundy, mahogany, and chocolate-red, often retaining muted olive-green shading around the shoulders. Inside, the exceptionally meaty, juicy flesh develops a saturated crimson to deep red-brown color with dark green-tinted seed gel. Full-bodied sweetness, savory depth, rich aroma, gentle acidity, and lingering umami character create the complex flavor prized in dark tomatoes. Vigorous indeterminate plants develop an open growth habit and broad potato-leaf foliage, generally reaching approximately 5 to 6 feet tall while producing concentrated sets of large fruits. Train the vines to one or two stems and provide a sturdy cage or trellis to support the heavy beefsteaks. Excellent for fresh slicing, sandwiches, burgers, salads, caprese, roasting, tomato juice, and rich sauces.
